Care & Maintenance
Solid wood furniture ages beautifully with basic care — in fact, a well-kept UMDAA piece looks richer in year five than in week one. Follow these guidelines to keep yours at its best.
Daily care
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth, following the direction of the grain.
- Wipe spills immediately with a slightly damp cloth, then dry the surface — never leave standing liquid on wood.
- Use coasters under hot or wet items, and mats under hot dishes.
What to avoid
- Direct sunlight for prolonged hours — it fades and dries the wood unevenly. Use curtains or move the piece if a spot gets harsh daily sun.
- Excess moisture — never soak the surface; wood and water do not mix.
- Harsh chemicals — no bleach, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners. Use wood-safe cleaners only.
- Dragging — always lift furniture to move it; dragging stresses the joints.
- Sharp impacts on edges and corners — the most common source of dents in daily use.
Metal parts
Powder-coated steel frames and brass fittings need only a wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive pads on coated surfaces; they dull the finish.
Seasonal notes
Wood expands and contracts slightly with humidity changes. Minor seasonal movement — a drawer that feels a touch tighter in monsoon season, for example — is normal behaviour for real wood and is not a defect. Keeping indoor humidity reasonably stable helps.
Finishes
- Oiled finishes: re-oil about once a year with a suitable wood oil to nourish the surface and restore its depth.
- Lacquered finishes: wipe clean with a soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads that dull the sheen.
When to contact us
If joints loosen, a finish wears significantly, or anything feels wrong, message us on WhatsApp at +92 342 8566606 with photos. We will advise on repair options — many issues are fixable at home with a little guidance, and we would rather help you maintain your piece than replace it.
